Fashion Photography

CHANGES MADE IN THE VIDEOS

1. The changes made in this video are they removed pimples, cleared skin and blotchiness. They changed her face shape with makeup and changed every feature of her face with makeup. They also curled and changed her hair. With photoshop, they made her neck longer, darker hair, and bigger eyes.

2. In the second video, they added tons of makeup, curled hair and long extensions. On photoshop, they enlarged her eyes, changed the face shape, made her thinner, have longer legs, longer neck, and lighter hair and skin.

3. In the third video, they made ever part of her body thinner, larger head and breast, less wrinkles in arms and legs, changed the lighting and added more hair.

QUESTIONS

4. It is absolutely not ethically acceptable to make these kinds of changes through photoshop. One of the biggest problems in society today is girls and their self consciousness and when these kinds of pictures are on the cover of magazines, no wonder they feel bad about themselves. If they knew the truth behind these extremely edited photos, then most likely girls would have more confidence with themselves. Also for the people being edited, this could make them feel bad also. They must feel like they are not pretty enough and do not reach the standards of todays society because they have been edited until the original person looks like nothing like the person in the final product.

5. In my opinion, there are very little circumstances where it would be more unethical. Obviously only changing a couple things like acne or lighting is acceptable because the person being edited would be okay with that. For example, if I were to post a picture on instagram of me, I would most likely change the lighting and possibly get rid of acne, but this is okay. However, changing someone personality completely, is unacceptable.

6. Some changes that are okay, are lighting, acne or oiliness in someone's face. But changing proportions and appearance completely is not okay.

7. Although, fashion photography and photojournalism both use skills of photography and equipment, there are many differences. Photojournalism is the photography of many things and the list would go on and on but most of the time, photos are edited very minimally. However, fashion photography is the photography of subjects related to fashion and clothing and if the subject is a person, you would find it common to edit the person more than in photojournalism.

8. Photojournalism compared to reality is very ethical. It photographs the beauty of nature, people and the world and tells stories through photos. Fashion photography is not as ethical, because even though many photos are probably fine, there are many that edit people until it is unacceptable.

9. I believe you showed us these videos because they showed how unacceptable photoshop can be used for and the dangers and maturity needed for Photoshop. You showed us this because even though photoshop can be used in very good ways, it can be used in bad ways also as proven in the video.

10. The reason that none of the videos were guys are, like I said in Question 1, one of the biggest problems in society is the need girls have for the perfection in others eyes. As of now, this is not really a problem for guys because there aren't as many of these photoshop edits to inspire the self consciousness in them over themselves like there are for girls.
